It's so hot the eagles are panting
With the temperature near 100 degrees Fahrenheit a subadult bald eagle appears to pant while perched on a tree overhanging the Umpqua River near Elkton in southwestern Oregon. According to the National Wildlife Federation, like dogs, birds can pant to cool down. When a bird pants, it breathes quickly, moving air across the moist surfaces of its lungs, throat, and mouth. This moisture then evaporates, which absorbs heat from the bird’s body.
