Flooding in Oregon

Snail season in Oregon

Life finds a way


A just hatched baby chicken is warmed after it was found outside of its nest on Sunday, Oct., 26, 2014. The chick is part of our backyard flock. Raising backyard chickens for fresh eggs has become more popular in the United States over the last few years. The chick was placed back with its mother after it warmed up.

Rodents of unusual size: nutria

A nutria begs for food scraps on the bank of a pond behind a shopping center in Roseburg, Ore., on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014. Nutria, also know as coypu, are native to South America and are considered an invasive species in North America.

Skunked

Cheeky little birds

Some rufous hummingbirds migrate thousands of miles from their summer homes in the Pacific Northwest and the Rocky Mountain states to wintering grounds in Mexico.

Rattle and hiss

One of my dogs noticed the snake before I did. Nothing focuses my attention quite like a big rattlesnake. I counted twelve segments in its rattle.
The snake was especially green.
