According to the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 7,000 to 8,000 people per year receive venomous snake bites in the United States, and about 5 die.

An early start to Oregon wildfire season

A wildfire burns on a ridge near Elkton in rural southwestern Oregon late Tuesday, June 1, 2021. The fire had burned about 200 acres on private timber land as crews continued to fight it into the evening. A dry spring has brought an early fire season to the region. 

No structures were threatened in the blaze.

By Wednesday afternoon the fire appeared to be under control.
