Fence lizard

I can't figure out why it's called a western fence lizard. But seriously, a western fence lizard soaks up the sun on a fencepost on our ranch in southwestern Oregon on Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014.

Skunked

The skunks were so interested in me and my camera that I have skunk nose prints on my lens. After a few minutes they waddled off into the tall grass with no stink being sprayed

Cheeky little birds

A rufous hummingbird alights on a branch while feeding on fuchsia flowers outside a home near Elkton in southwestern Oregon on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014. Some rufous hummingbirds migrate thousands of miles from their summer homes in the Pacific Northwest and the Rocky Mountain states to wintering grounds in Mexico. 

Photo made with Nikon D4 body, Nikon AF-S 600mm f/4 lens, and Nikon 1.7x teleconverter. It's an amazing setup. The lens is getting a old and it's very heavy, but it's still pretty sharp.

Smoke from wildfires burning near the California-Oregon border has drifted north and made for an interesting sunset last night.
