Hoot.  My owl photo is currently being used in a caption contest on the National Geographic Society's Facebook page.  The natgeo Facebook page has over 11 million fans.

Don't eat the flora or fauna

A wild rough skinned newt curls up in colorful fall leaves at the base of a maple tree in a wooded area along the Umpqua River near Elkton, Ore., on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2012. The rough skinned newt's body contains highly poisonous tetrodotoxins.  According to experts, one rough skinned newt contains enough toxin to kill 17 people. 

With the onset of rainy fall weather in the Pacific Northwest mushrooms are sprouting up everywhere.  In this case the top of a delicate translucent mushroom sits on a colorful fall leaf in a wooded area.  Also probably poisonous.

Good to the last drop

A potential client was looking for interesting images of wine.  It turns out this is NOT what they wanted.  It was fun making it anyway. 

I used a pellet gun and high shutter speeds to capture the wine.

Who's a pretty bird

With colorful fall leaves as a backdrop, a great blue heron hunts for fish at a small waterfall on Deer Creek in Roseburg, Ore., on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012.
