Daisy Daze

On a rainy morning, raindrops dapple the petals of a wild daisy growing on the bank of the Umpqua River near Elkton in rural western Oregon on Tuesday, May 25, 2021.

A beetle stands ready on a nearby flower.

Awkward eagle

A sub-adult bald eagle awkwardly takes flight from a perch on a dead tree along the Umpqua River near Elkton in southwestern Oregon on Wednesday, May 26, 2021. It typically requires 4-5 years before a young bald eagle develops the characteristic yellow bill with white head and tail of an adult.

Capturing a honeybee swarm

Beekeeper Todd Hannah captures a swarm of honey bees from the side of his garage near Elkton in western Oregon on Friday, May 20, 2021. Honey bees normally swarm when their hive has become too crowded so they split into two groups (or more), with one group remaining in the existing hive. Swarming is the reproduction of a honey bee colony.

Cute baby

I found a baby ground squirrel cold, alone, and hungry in the middle of the road at sunset last night. Took him in for the night, warmed him up, and gave him a snack. This morning I found his den and released him back with his family...

Not so fresh fish

In the late afternoon sun, a pair of turkey vultures feed on a dead fish along the Umpqua River near Elkton in southwestern Oregon on Sunday, May 16, 2021. An adult turkey vulture has a 6-foot wingspan, but only weighs about 3 pounds.

No peace for bald eagle

A sub-adult bald eagle is pestered by a Steller’s jay while perched on a Douglas fir tree along the Umpqua River near Elkton in rural western Oregon on Tuesday, May 11, 2021. The behavior is called  “mobbing,” where smaller birds swoop and dash at flying or perched larger birds. They typically do this in an effort to drive away potential predators from a breeding territory, a nest or young.

After putting up with the attacks for a while, the young eagle flew away.

COVID 19 pop-up clinic video

Last week I shot and produced a video at the Coles Valley Vineyard COVID19 vaccine clinic. The vineyard partnered with the Douglas County Public Health Network to hold a pop-up clinic for local agricultural workers. I really enjoy adding video production into my work.
