A few years ago, while I was the photo editor at The Great Falls Tribune, a report came over the police scanner of a cow running through town. After an all-day chase the cow was captured, but the her story gained national attention and my photos ran, via the Associated Press, all over the world. The cow was named Molly B and saved from slaughter. She has lived the last few years at an animal rescue facility in Montana. The facility recently hit hard times and Molly has been saved once again from near death. Here is the AP story of her new adventure.
After Molly's original escape a couple of local disc jockeys in Great Falls set her story to song and we turned it into an amazing slide show. The Molly B story was one of the highlights of my 19-year career as a newspaper photographer.

Mushroom closeup in Smithsonian
On Thursday Smithsonian.com used a photo of mine with a fun story about mushroom picking in Oregon. The article says there are over 5000 species of mushrooms growing in the Pacific Northwest. I believe it. I have no idea what type are in my photo. I don't think I'd eat them.

Lambing season
During a spring-like day in southern Oregon, a newborn lamb naps in the sunshine in a pasture near Glide, Ore., on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2011. |
The weather may be cold and nasty on the east coast, but out here in Oregon it feels like spring. I found these cute little guys while taking a drive in the country this morning. Check out more of my nature and wildlife pictures here. |

Roseburg engagement photos: Spencer & Sarah
The engagement photo session with Spencer and Sarah was amazing. So cute and in love. We scheduled the photo session not knowing what the weather would do, but we lucked out with a beautiful day.
I love mixing the natural light with my portable studio lights. |

Doggie in the window
An old photo of mine is getting lots of exposure on the web today. The Associated Press moved a story called, "Do pets pose another threat to safe driving?" and used a file photo of mine for illustration. I've gotten about a dozen Google Alerts about my name showing up with the story from all over the country. Sites from philly.com to yahoo.com are using the photo.
I wish I had a nickel for each time the photo is being used.

Hunting heron
A friend told me about this great blue heron hunting along Deer Creek in downtown Roseburg, Ore., today. I used a slow shutter speed to show movement in the water. The deep green colors are fantastic.

Robin by Robin on msnbc.com
My photo of a robin taking a bath in a puddle at River Forks park near Roseburg, Ore., is featured on this week's Animal Tracks gallery on msnbc.com. They're one of my best clients for critter photos. Click here to see more of my animal and nature pictures. Prints are available from the gallery.
The New York Post used one of my other photos of the bird bath robin. The Post did not give me credit, but I believe they picked the photo up from Zuma Press, one of the photo agencies I work with.

Rising waters
Turtle excusion
I spotted this western pond turtle making his way slowly along a country road near my home in Douglas County, Oregon this afternoon. He looks down-right happy with his situation. I guess all of the recent rain has been good news for some.

Wedding photographer ad
This morning I designed an ad to run in the Bridal Guide of The News-Review in Roseburg later this month. I'm not much of a graphic designer, but I think it looks pretty nice. I love a bit of white space in graphic design.
