No peace for bald eagle

A sub-adult bald eagle is pestered by a Steller’s jay while perched on a Douglas fir tree along the Umpqua River near Elkton in rural western Oregon on Tuesday, May 11, 2021. The behavior is called  “mobbing,” where smaller birds swoop and dash at flying or perched larger birds. They typically do this in an effort to drive away potential predators from a breeding territory, a nest or young.

After putting up with the attacks for a while, the young eagle flew away.
