Manatee warming area

A large group of manatee gather to soak up the warmth from a nearby power station water discharge at the Manatee Lagoon in Riviera on Floridas southeast coast on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2019. During the cool winter, manatee are drawn the the warm water outflows of Florida Power and Light Company's Riviera Beach energy generation center. Manatee are large, fully aquatic marine mammals sometimes known as sea cows.

The cows and yearlings snuggle together in the warm water.

Many of the manatee show signs of propeller injuries. Every year hundreds are killed and injured by boaters.
