Flooding in Oregon

Life finds a way


A just hatched baby chicken is warmed after it was found outside of its nest on Sunday, Oct., 26, 2014. The chick is part of our backyard flock. Raising backyard chickens for fresh eggs has become more popular in the United States over the last few years. The chick was placed back with its mother after it warmed up.

Rodents of unusual size: nutria

Cheeky little birds

Rattle and hiss

A large western rattlesnake makes her up an embankment along a dirt road near our home in southwestern Oregon on Friday, July 11, 2014. 
One of my dogs noticed the snake before I did. Nothing focuses my attention quite like a big rattlesnake. I counted twelve segments in its rattle.
The snake was especially green.
