A live backlegged tick, also known as a deer tick, crawls on the surface on a penny. The tick was pulled from the skin of a pet dog at a home near Roseburg, Ore., on Monday, March 31, 2014. Due to a mild winter in western Oregon, the tick population seems to be booming this spring. Blacklegged ticks are known to carry Lyme disease and other tick-transmitted diseases. |
