Horsing around

A pair of horses engage in a little "horseplay" in their pasture at a small farm near Roseburg, Ore., on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013.

A third horse joined in on the fun and the race was on...

Chicken crossing the road

A free-range chicken crosses a rural county road on a rainy afternoon near Roseburg, Ore., on Monday, Jan. 28, 2013. The chicken appeared to be looking for earth worms to eat on the wet pavement.
Why? I shot a similar photo about a year ago. I hate to copy myself, but I can't refuse to take such a fun photo.

Fencepost diorama

Raindrops cling to lichen and moss growing on the top of a wood fencepost along a farmer's field on a misty morning near Roseburg, Ore., on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013.

So cute

A pair of one week old lambs run after their mother through a green field on a farm near Roseburg, Ore., on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013.

Seven Feathers wedding show on Sunday

Don't miss the Wedding Dreams Forever wedding fair at the Seven Feathers Casino and Resort in Canyonville, Ore., on Sunday, Jan 27, 2013.  It's free!  I'll be there with a display of my wedding photography.  I'll also have my Open Air photo booth setup and be giving away prints.

Shooting the Ruger LCR 38 special

We had a visit from a Ruger LCR .38 Special +P revolver in my Roseburg, Ore., photography studio the other day. Shooting the mostly black revolver on a black background was a challenge, but it turned out pretty nice.

No longer as popular as semi-automatic pistols, revolvers continue to be used as backup guns by American law enforcement and for personal protection. Due to the gun's reliability and simplicity revolvers are also popular as concealed weapons. Many gun stores in the United States are running low on firearms and ammunition. Gun buyers have been stocking up due to fears that stricter gun control laws may soon go into effect.

I'm a commercial, wedding, editorial, and nature photographer based in southwestern Oregon. Check my full website to see more of my work.

The moss season

It's the mossy season in southwestern Oregon. A seasonal creek rushes down a hillside near Elkton, Ore., on Tuesday, Jan 22, 2013.

I dew

Dew drops dapple leaves of grass high on a hillside on our ranch near Roseburg, Ore., on Monday, Jan 21, 2013.  After the fog lifted it was a lovely day.

My 16-year-old son laughed at the "I dew" title on this posting.  Not cool enough for him I guess.

Bad habits

Apparently my cat Scooter's bad habit is getting his picture taken.  It's my photo, via Zuma Press, with an interesting story on nbcnews.com.

Baaaaaaaaa!

A newborn lamb bleats for its mother while siting in damp grass along a fence in a farmer's field near the rural southwestern Oregon community of Wilbur on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013.
The cute little fellow appeared to be only a few hours old.

Frozen web

On a cool winter morning in Oregon, ice forms on the silken strands of a spiderweb strung in a fence at Fir Grove Park in Roseburg, Ore., on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2012.
It's a difficult time of year to be a spider, but it warmed up enough on Tuesday for this optimistic arachnid to spin a web before it was coated with ice in the evening.  I hope she caught something to eat for her troubles.

Frosted fence

A thick coating of frost forms on a barbed wire fence along Highway 138 at the crest of a tall hill near Dixonville, Ore., on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013.

I love the little details I find along the way.  I was actually on  my way to shoot something else, but I ended up with this instead.

Snowy morning

Up and Over - A yearling fawn leaps a fence while crossing a county road on a snowy morning near Roseburg, Ore., on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013.  We don't get much snow in the valleys of western Oregon. Everyone gets a little jumpy when they see the white stuff fly.
Early Bird - An American robin pulls a juicy worm from a snowy field at River Forks Park near Roseburg, Ore., on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013. A flock of about 20 robins spent the morning stalking worms on the snow covered grass at the park. I've shot similar photos in the past.  It's aways a challenge.  The snow makes the photo even better.

Top of the world

A lamb born this week stands on his mother in the pasture of a sheep ranch near the community of Wilbur in rural Douglas County, Ore., on Tuesday, Jan 8, 2012.

Most lambs in southwestern Oregon are born in January and February.

Hoot, Hoot!

A pair of wild barn owls perch high in the peak of an old barn near our home in southwestern Oregon on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013. Female barn owls are normally slightly larger than male barn owls.

Skunk skull with fungus

A skunk skull is displayed on a shelf fungus growing on a rotting log on a forested hillside near my home in southwestern Oregon.  I found the skull nearby and placed on the log.

Frankincense and Purr

Sweetie visits the Holy Land.  My mom said I post too many photos of cats.  Sorry Mom, but one of the main reason they created the internet was for cute cat photos.

Frosty New Year's Day

The sun rises over a ridge on a frosty New Year's Day morning near our home in southwestern Oregon on Tuesday, Jan 1, 2013.
Frozen water drops form on blades of grass in a nearby field.
