Japanese tsunami dock removed from Oregon beach

Spectators watch as workers begin the process of cutting a massive beached dock into pieces on Agate Beach near Newport, Ore., on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012. The giant Japanese dock was torn away by last year's tsunami and washed up on an Oregon beach nearly two months ago. The Japanese tsunami ripped the dock loose from its moorings in the northern Japanese city of Misawa in March 2011. A 15-month journey across the Pacific, ended on this Oregon beach on June 5.

The dock has become a major tourist attraction and many people in Newport don't want the dock removed.

A mural depiction a tsunami wave was added to the dock after it was beached.  A section of the structure will be placed in a park in downtown Newport.
