Rough skinned newt and banana slug

A wild rough skinned newt crawls over colorful fall leaves in a wooded area along the Umpqua River near Elkton, Ore,m on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012.

River otters

I'm snapping photos of the fall colors down by the river this morning and up swim a couple of river otters. They check me out for a while and it's all cool. Sometimes I feel like Dr. Dolittle.

Exploding wine glasses

A wine glass filled with liquid soap explodes as it is impacted by a pellet during a demonstration of ballistic at a private shooting range near Roseburg, Ore., on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012.  The weapon being used in the demonstration is capable of firing a pellet at about 725 feet per second.

Last time I tried similar photos I used a .22 with hollow points. This time I slowed down the projectile and got a bit less blur.
The camera is firing at 1/8000th of a second.
