Kestrel on the wing

An American kestrel takes flight from a power line along a road near Dixonville, Ore., on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009. One of the most colorful birds of prey in the world, the American Kestrel is the most common falcon in North America.

The little kestrel is one of my favorite birds. I shot this with my Nikon D3 fitted with a 600mm f/4 and a 1.4x teleconverter.

Bathtub Grin

For some reason I just love the look of this old bathtub. It's used as a watering trough on a hillside on our ranch. I shot this the other day in the area of the ranch we call "The fairyland".

All I want for Christmas is a Nikon D3s and a Nikon 600mm f/4g ED VR

Check out some of my nature photos...

Winter Fun

Get out and enjoy the weather!

Walk in the Woods

The family and I took a little hike up the mountain in the rain yesterday.
I spotted two proud blacktail deer bucks out in the open near the top of our property.
After snapping the shot below from a distance I tried to sneak closer but they turned and trotted into the deep woods. I always like to shoot a safety image before I try anything fancy. In this case the safety shot is all I get.

Check out some more of my wildlife photography on my website.

Mossy Season

The wet season has arrived in western Oregon. Everything is wet and mossy. It looks to be a green Christmas.

Pictures of the Decade

The popular website msnbc.com came out with their Decade in Pictures project yesterday. It's a collection of some of the most amazing and mind blowing images from the last ten years. They just so happen to have included one of my pictures in the slide show. The show includes all of the iconic news images from the last ten years and some fun lighter "feature" pictures. My photo of a salsify is number 19 in the presentation.

Visual Student

The National Press Photographers Association Visual Student asked me to answer a few question and provide some picture for their blog. It's the story of my photojournalism career in a few paragraphs.

High Priestess

I shot some quick portraits of Chrissy at work at High Priestess Piercing in Roseburg the other day for The News-Review. In the action photo she is just about to pierce a young man's tongue. Ouch! Good thing I didn't faint.
I used a quick one light setup for the portrait.

Visions of mice

One of our cats takes a nap in Christmas lights on the piano in our living room.

Want a pet portrait? I can do that. Check out the animals and nature section of my website to see examples of my work.

Heron photo

My picture of the frozen heron moved on the AP wire yesterday. Here are a few clips I could find this morning.

Holiday Over Eating

Had a jolly time playing with Photoshop to make a photo illustration to go along with a story about watching what you eat over the holidays. Dan Jones gets a big "thanks" for being my model.
Dan is a very funny man. Check out his series of short videos called "Dan, Try This!" at nrtoday.com. I shot and edited most of the video for the series.

Freezing your tail (feathers) off

A great blue heron attempts to keep warm as it perches on a log over the frozen South Umpqua River in Roseburg, Ore., on Friday, Dec. 11, 2009.

The front page picture from The News-Review today. It's predicted to warm up this weekend. I enjoy extreme weather because it makes for interesting pictures.

Ice photo in Oregonian

The website of the Oregonian newspaper, oregonlive.com, used my ice picture today with a weather story. I often share pictures with The Associated Press and you never know who will use them.

The Week in Pictures

Check out this video from msnbc.com. It's a behind the scenes look at ten years of The Week in Pictures. I've had my work highlighted by them numerous times over the years. I'm interviewed in the video and they show several of my images.

Wet Feet Dry Camera

Ice forms on small sticks along the South Umpqua River in Roseburg on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009.

I got my feet wet and water splashed on my lens for this photo. The ice formations were really amazing in the river just below the half shell stage at Stewart Park in Roseburg. When I start shooting something like this I can spend an hour or so looking for different angles and shooting a couple hundred images.

Architecture Photos

I've been tweaking my website and added a couple of real estate/architecture photos. The house is a newly constructed custom home on a ranch near Elkton. I'm working on shooting with three light sources; the dusky sky, the house lights, and a couple of fill flashes. It's difficult, but I'm learning.

Photobooth Brochures

I'm getting some brochures printed to promote my photo booth. I'll have it set up and be offering free photobooth photo-strips at the bridal fair in January at Seven Feathers Casino.

I'm still looking to book any off season weddings. My special deals on wedding photography still stands. I'll photograph your wedding and provide an online gallery of your images for the super-low price of $300. I also have my very cool photobooth which will be a hit at your reception. I'll offer the photobooth for three hours of unlimited prints for $200. This deal is only good for the first two bookings.

I shot Santa Claus

I photographed Santa on a fishing trip to the South Umpqua River in Roseburg this afternoon. It turns out the jolly old elf is quite the salmon fisherman. He was helping out The News-Review for a story about what to buy the outdoorsman for Christmas.
Speaking of Christmas, a photo session with Robin Loznak Photography, LLC would make an awesome gift. I can shoot on location at your favorite fishing spot or at the studio. We offer gift certificates for redemption at any time.

A family portrait would also make a great Christmas card.

I really need to get more wedding photos in my portfolio.

I've got the gear, the experience as a professional photojournalist, and the award winning style to provide some of the best wedding photography available. I'm new in business as a portrait, commercial, and wedding photographer and I need to get my lens in the door. I'm offering a special deal to my first few wedding clients. I'll shoot your wedding and provide an online gallery of your images for the super-low price of $300. I also have a very cool photo booth which will be a hit at your reception. I'll offer the photobooth for three hours of unlimited prints for $200.
Take a look at my work and you'll see what I can offer.

The Studio

My studio is coming together nicely. I have a giant privacy curtain up which encloses the shooting area. I got the high speed internet running yesterday. My portable backdrop should be in this week. I still need more furniture and some pictures on the walls.
